Local Traders 2 You Ltd · Last updated: August 2026

Overview

Local Traders 2 You (“the Platform”, “we”, “us”) connects customers with vetted, insured local tradespeople across the United Kingdom. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to both customers booking a service and tradespeople registering on the Platform.

We are a data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. For any privacy question, email privacy@localtraders2you.co.uk.

What we collect
  • Account & contact: name, email address, phone number, and postal address.
  • Job details: the description, address and images/video you submit when booking a service request.
  • Identity verification: the result of an identity check run by Stripe Identity (passport or driving licence + selfie). We never store the document image — only the verification outcome.
  • Location: the tradesperson’s live location is shared with you (the customer) and the platform only while a job is active, so you can track arrivals and verify site attendance. A tradesperson may pause location sharing at any time.
  • Payments: card and bank details are collected and held by Stripe. We never see or store full card numbers.
  • Qualifications & insurance: for tradespeople — qualification certificates, accreditation numbers, and public liability insurance details, so we can verify and promote them on your profile.
  • Usage & analytics: anonymised analytics events (e.g. page views) collected via Google Analytics to improve the service.
  • Device push tokens: if you enable push notifications, we store a device token to deliver job-status alerts.
Why we use it (lawful basis)
  • To provide the booking service (contract) — matching you with a tradesperson, scheduling, and completing a job.
  • To verify identity and prevent fraud (consent & legal obligation) — mandatory before any tradesperson is dispatched.
  • To process payments and meet tax obligations (legal obligation) — including CIS-compliant invoicing and HMRC record-keeping.
  • To deliver live tracking and site verification (consent & contract) — location is shared only during an active job.
  • To prevent off-platform handling (legitimate interests) — protecting the guarantee we offer customers and the integrity of platform jobs.
  • To send service notifications (contract) — job status updates, scheduling, and review requests.
Sharing
  • Tradesperson → customer: name, trade, photo, live location, and arrival ETA for the active job only.
  • Customer → tradesperson: job address, onsite contact, and a description of the works — for the active job only.
  • Stripe: processes identity verification, card payments, and tradesperson payouts via Stripe Connect. Stripe is a separate data controller for the data it holds.
  • Service providers: SMS, email, push and analytics vendors acting as our processors under contract.
  • Legal: where required by law, court order, or to meet CIS, tax, or safeguarding obligations.

We never sell your personal data.

Retention

Job and payment records are retained for the period required by UK tax and accounting law (typically six years from the end of the relevant tax year) to support CIS and audit requirements. Identity-verification results and qualification/insurance documents are retained for the duration of your account plus the legal retention period. Location data is deleted shortly after a job ends unless it is required to resolve a dispute.

International transfers

Some processors (e.g. Stripe, Google Analytics, push-notification providers) may process data outside the UK. We rely on recognised safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Standard Contractual Clauses and only transfer the minimum data necessary.

Security

Personal data is stored on the Platform’s managed database with row-level access controls so each user only sees records they are entitled to. Card and bank details never reach our servers — they are tokenised and held by Stripe. Sensitive configuration values are protected using platform-managed secrets.

Children

The Platform is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Target audience is adults seeking or providing trade services.

Your rights
  • Access — request a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — request deletion where not retained for legal reasons.
  • Restriction or objection — limit or object to certain processing.
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent — for processing based on consent (e.g. location, marketing).
